"Said the thimble to the basket."
For those of you who've missed my foolish antics on the football field in a blue suit and a red cape, I'm "playing" Superman during the field show for marching band. I've never been the biggest fan of the Man of Steel, or comics in general for that matter (I love manga as much as the next nerd, but its American counterpart has never really stuck wiht me), but in a way it's still living a fantasy that every male child has at one time in their life. It's damn fun.
In light of this, in pure Kevin Pajor fashion, even in the smallest little things, I have to research the background of whatever I'm doing. In other words, WIKIPEDIA IS GOD.
Today I checked out the DC graphic novel, Superman: Birthright, and I read the whole thing tonight.
It's the 2003-2004 reboot of Superman's origin story. Basically, it covers his escape from Krypton, parts of his childhood in Smallville, parts of his studies abroad in Africa (a new concept, I believe), and a very good deal of his first days in Metropolis and his debut as The Man of Tomorrow.
It's really, really good. I liked it, a lot. I know a lot of comic purists will poke its continuity updates and inconsistencies, but as a story it is very good.
What touched me the most, and probably most of the readers, is Jor-El and Lara's words at the departure of their child, the Last Son of Krypton. The writer brings their words back a couple times in the story, and by the end it all comes full-circle and is quite touching and profound.
Luthor's character is very well-written and developed as well. Though there might not be all the h4rdc0r3 Superman action that a lot of people would expect, overall I enjoyed it immensely and recommend it to anyone who has any interest in the Man of Steel.
I promise this won't be the only post I make in the near future, I intend on getting a more normal update on here sometime soon.

But as Jake, Kevin, and I know, Green Lantern is the better bowler.
